What is Mums & Bubs Pilates?
Becoming a parent transforms every part of your life—including how you move, rest, and take care of yourself. At Fleur Wellbeing, we created our Mums & Bubs Pilates classes to support this important transition by offering a safe, gentle and community-driven way to return to exercise while spending time with your baby.
So, what exactly is Mums & Bubs Pilates, and why has it become such a popular option for postnatal movement? Here’s everything you need to know.
A Specially Designed Postnatal Pilates Class
Mums & Bubs Pilates is a postnatal Pilates class designed for new mothers and their babies. These sessions are gentle, low-impact and tailored to the needs of the postpartum body—helping you safely rebuild core strength, reconnect with your pelvic floor, improve posture, and ease tension from feeding and holding your baby.
Unlike traditional classes, your baby is welcome to join you in the studio—lying next to you on a mat, sitting in a bouncer, or even participating in a few exercises with your help. There’s no pressure, and plenty of flexibility: need to stop for a feed, a cuddle or a nappy change? Go right ahead. These classes are about honouring your experience and working with your body—not against it.
The Benefits of Mums & Bubs Pilates
The benefits of attending a Mums & Bubs Pilates class go far beyond physical recovery. Yes, you’ll be moving your body and regaining strength, but these classes also nurture connection—between you and your body, you and your baby, and you and a community of other new mums.
Here are just a few of the key benefits:
Postnatal Recovery: Strengthens your core, pelvic floor, and back—helping to restore stability and improve posture.
Improved Mood & Mental Health: Gentle movement releases endorphins, reduces stress, and can help with symptoms of postnatal anxiety or depression.
Social Support: Connect with other local mums in a warm, non-judgemental environment.
Flexibility: Classes are baby-friendly and designed with real-life parenting in mind. There's no need for childcare or babysitting—your bub is welcome right alongside you.
When Can You Start?
Every postnatal journey is different, so it's important to check with your healthcare provider before returning to exercise. Most women are cleared to begin gentle Pilates around six weeks postpartum, especially if they had an uncomplicated birth. If you've had a caesarean or experienced other birth-related complications, your doctor may recommend waiting a little longer.
At Fleur Wellbeing, we always prioritise your safety and comfort. Our instructors are trained to offer modifications and guidance to support your specific recovery needs.
